DSWA Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Collection Event Being Held on Saturday, November 7, 2009

The Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) will hold a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event Saturday, November 7, 2009 from 8am-4pm at Frawley (Blue Rocks) Stadium located at 801 S. Madison Street in Wilmington. Household Hazardous Waste can include items such as household cleaners, garden pesticides, oil-based paints, nail polish, fluorescent bulbs, or antifreeze. Only Delaware residents can bring hazardous items free of charge to the event. This event is restricted to residents only; DSWA is not permitted to accept hazardous waste from commercial businesses. During this event, DSWA will also collect used electronic goods for recycling. Items such as old computers, printers, CD players, microwaves, telephones, televisions, and many other electronic goods will also be accepted at this event. This wonderful opportunity is a great way for households to remove harmful chemicals from their homes and to recycle those old electronic goods that are taking up space. For a complete list of items accepted for both Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Goods please visit, www.dswa.com. The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) will be holding a scrap tire collection at the same location. During the event Delaware residents can bring up to 10 passenger or light duty truck tires to the site for recycling. Residents cannot bring larger tires, tires on rims, or bicycle tires to the event. There will also be no collection of tires from a commercial business. Residents will need to show proof of residency with either a driver’s license or utility bill. The Clean Wilmington Committee will also be on hand for document shredding at the same time. Each household can bring up to three boxes of documents for shredding.
