Construction & Demolition Debris

DSWA has established a statewide uniform user fee system for its solid waste management system. The costs of all DSWA programs are clearly indicated as a fraction of the user fee. No direct or indirect subsidies from local, State or Federal governments support any of DSWA's programs.

Construction and Demolition (C&D) Debris

DSWA will be taking advantage of a new opportunity to protect Delaware’s environment. DSWA is expanding its initiative to process and recycle Construction and Demolition Waste (C&D).

The C&D is processed into alternate daily cover (ADC) for our landfills resulting in more landfill space and increased recycling and conservation of natural resources. In an effort to not contaminate the cover material, DSWA first separates gypsum wallboard from the C&D.

The gypsum wallboard is then recycled and the balance of the C&D is processed through a grinder to produce ADC. The ADC replaces virgin soil that would otherwise have to be purchased for the landfill cover operations, thereby conserving our natural resources.

DSWA strives to design innovative internal recycling solutions to help create a safe environment for our future. Many items accepted at our landfills or transfer stations are recycled.
